On Saturday, 10/09/21, we went to the North Davie tennis courts to play some tennis! It had just finished raining so the courts had some puddles on them, but that did not stop us. We had to research the rules of tennis before playing because we had no knowledge about how to play. We learned about the point system, love-15-30-40 and the serving rules. A question we still have is, "What is the 4th point called?" We know love = 0, 15 = 1, 30 = 2, and 40 = 3, but what about the 4th. If our research was correct, one person wins the game by getting 4 points. If any tennis players want to help us out, please do!
Our Progress: When we first got to the tennis courts, we warmed up by serving because that is a key component in tennis. As you will be able to tell from our video, our warm up did not do us any justice. Our serving was not too good. After serving, we decided that it was time to play. Hailey and I played rock, paper, scissors to see who would serve first and Hailey won. Melia won 2 games and Hailey might have won 1. We bickered over the second game because we were not sure who won. Melia thought she won and Hailey thought she won. We overall believe that tennis is definitely not our sport. We do think it is fun, but it would not be a sport that we would enjoy just because we are not good at it. Overall Feelings: Melia: "Tennis was fun in the beginning, but when I realized I was not as good as I thought I was going to be, it got really frustrating. I was happy that I won, but it did not feel like I won because I played so bad. I would not join the tennis team because I feel that I would not enjoy the sport. Maybe if I practiced more and got better, but as of right now it is for sure a no. After we played our games, we hit some reps with my dad off camera which was fun." Hailey: "Going into tennis, I really thought I was an OG prodigy. I honestly thought that I had all the skills that I needed because I grew up playing tennis on the WII. However, it was a bright idea... but, not so accurate. I can definitely say that Melia did cheat and I DID win the second game/match, whatever it is called. Overall, tennis was fun, but for me to play it as my main sport wouldn't be fun. I am just not as talented as I want to be. With tons of practice, maybe something could potentially happen?? But, tennis is not for me!" Edited on 12/05/21: Looking back, correcting some grammatical errors.

Saturday morning, 10/02/2021, we went to the 64 driving range. The results were, to say the least, very, very interesting. Watching our video back, we are absolutely embarrassed! Our first swing was terrible, dreadful to watch. But, that is just fine because what more can you expect when you have never done something like this before. Looking back, we realized that we never got our stance down. We would be unstable, pick our leg up (Melia), not look at the ball to hit it (Hailey), and plenty more. We had a little mini-competition, which you will see in the video, about who could hit the ball the farthest. Melia won the first one by swinging 170 with a driver and Hailey won the second competition by swinging 160 with an iron.
Saturday night, 10/02/2021, we went to our queen, Sophia Brady's house. She was kind enough to take us golfing at the Oak Valley Golf Course. We were only able to golf two holes because of the amount of daylight we had. It took us a few tries to actually hit the ball off of the tee, but we eventually got it. We did two par three holes because Sophia knew we were not ready for any of the big holes. Melia WON (as I knew I would) the competition of the actual holes. On the first whole, Melia shot 7 so she was 4 over par and Hailey shot 8 so she was 5 over par. On the second hole, Melia shot 8 so she was 5 over par and Hailey shot 9 so she was 6 over par. Overall Feelings: Melia: "Golfing was actually super fun! I have always wanted to try golfing and this gave me a reason to do so. I would definitely keep doing golf because it was super fun, but I obviously need more practice. Golfing is actually pretty challenging so creds to those who do it really well." Hailey: "I really enjoyed golfing. I definitely underestimated how hard it would be though. The funny thing was that I was sore after the first day!" Edited on 12/05/21: Looking back, correcting some grammatical errors. Welcome aboard to Hailey and Melia's journey on trying out different sports! We are going to be trying out our different sports during the free weekends that we will have. To keep our journey highly interesting, we will be announcing what new sport we will be trying that upcoming week, as well as providing some bit of film of us playing that sport. This weekend we will be golfing! This upcoming Saturday which is 10/02/21, we will be heading to the 64 driving range to get some quick swings in before we decide to get on a real golf course and show off our massive skills! Our main focus on this project is to have fun and learn. Most of these sports we have all heard about, but what about the main goal of a sport? What is the background history? These things, we will find out by playing and doing some background research before we start. We will have people come help us out on this journey too, so stay tuned for some special guests that you may know! We want this project to be fun and something that we will not dread doing. Also, we are also very intrigued to see the progress we make with each sport. It is going to be interesting to see the different failures and successes that we encounter along this journey. In order to do provide our proposal with us playing different sports, we will incorporate some documentation of our progress by filming. As of right now, we are unsure of what app/device we will be using, we are excited to go on this journey to see who is the REAL ATHLETIC BEAST. Filming our progress will capture our best and worst moments, our personalities, and how we will act when competing. Hope you will enjoy this ride! Edited on 11/3/21: Our original plan for our project was to do sports every two weeks. But we soon realized that two weeks was super long and we would have way to much video footage. We decided to emprovise and just do the sport for a longer amount of time on the day that we do it. This would give us the perfect amount of footage and also would give us rest weeks to work on our website. Edited on 12/05/21: Looking back, just editing some of the grammatical errors that we have. Also, adding onto some sentences that needed more of an explanation. STAY TUNED to see our results! P.S *VIDEO FOOTAGE COMING SOON* |
